modge podge & napkin pumpkins {tutorial}

 This morning, little Imani woke me up at 4:45 and since I usually wake around 5 anyway to do my devotions and have a little "me time" before The Crazies {aka my children} wake up...I decided to head downstairs, make myself a latte, and start my day.

This project has been in the back of my mind for a few weeks now and since I had so much time before the family awoke, I decided to get started.

I'm still in total love with this collection from Target this past summer. Hate to admit that I bought the napkins, the coordinating tray, the table cloth AND the table runner.

Um...excess, anyone?

Anyway, find a fun colored napkin and after opening it up, begin cutting strips...leaving about an inch or so at the middle uncut.

I wanted a glossy finish, so I'm using my gloss or lustre modge podge

I poured the modge podge into a plastic party cup so I could dip my brush/sponge in easier.

Rather than brushing it on the entire pumpkin like I did here, just work section by section because it dries fairly quickly.

Now for the fun part!

Start lifting the strips upward, toward the stem & brush the modge podge on over it, smoothing the napkin {or tissue paper, etc} as you go.

keep going!

For those of you who have never used modge podge before, just know that it dries clear. So don't freak out at all the white.

This time I used a smaller cocktail napkin {and a larger pumpkin} so I thought I'd try cutting strips of napkins all the way and see if I liked doing it this way better.

Same idea of stretching the napkin from top to bottom, smoothing it out as you go.

My little angel woke up for real this time. She wanted to join in the project.

{do you SEE how dark it is outside?? why am I crafting right now??}

Drying in the kitchen sink.

Not sure if this is my cute new pumpkins permanent spot, but they're finishing drying here.

Super cute, right?? The boys woke up and freaked out about them. They want to make their own. And it was truly easy enough that they can!

Hm...what else could I modge podge at 4:45am???

{Ok, time for another latte...}
