You are marY: a woman of determination

Wow, girl. Can we be friends? Because the world definitely needs more Marys like you.

Like Mary (the sister of Martha), you are a strong woman of faith...but that really just scratches the surface. You want to so desperately to glean wisdom from the Lord that you are willing to press up against stigma.

Remember, it was a big deal that she sat at the feet of Jesus (Luke 10:38-42). Her sister Martha obviously wasn't happy...but we often think it's purely because she was irritated by doing all the hosting herself. The reality is that's only the half of it. What Martha was also concerned about is that Mary was a woman and was sitting at the foot of a rabbi (in this case Jesus). Doing this was a physical sign you were a student. During this time, women weren't permitted that opportunity.

Through Mary’s story we learn the importance of stepping forward even if we're the only one doing so. Continue to step up and step in, dear friend. The Lord has something REALLY EXCITING in store for a woman like you who is ok being uncomfortable.

John Piper once described Paul by saying: "He does not need my approval. He does not fear my rejection. He does not have his finger in the air to discern how the winds of culture are blowing. He is authentic."

This is the type of woman you are, too. You don't simply want to do things for the approval of others. You want to be authentic and live in real relationship with Jesus and with others.

THAT is the kind of woman this world needs. I love that you're it.
