You are Abigail: a bold and wise woman
Thank goodness the world has women like you and Abigail.
Life isn't always easy...in fact, sometimes life is downright hard...and yet, you still have the strength of character to step out and make a difference in the world around you. We need more women like you in our lives. Truly.
In Abigail's day, women were looked at as possessions, not intelligent human beings. Thankfully though, that was not God's intent when He created us. Because of this, we read stories all throughout the Bible where we're reminded of incredible women like Abigail who are described as beautiful...but also, wise, bold, and quick-witted problem solvers. What's amazing is that this woman known for these qualities is also known for her humility. Now THAT is an inspiring woman we all should want to emulate.
Before we chat any more about how similar you and Abigail are, I've gotta ask...do you remember her story? Let's do a quick little recap in case you forgot who she is:
It's during the time of this story that Saul is still king and David is still a man on the run from the crazed and jealous ruler. 1 Samuel 25 shares the story of David and his 600 men providing protection for flocks of sheep, goats, and the unarmed shepherds that cared for them. At a time when dangers in the desert constantly lurked all around (wild animals as well as desert raiders), it was a huge blessing from David to this wealthy man named Nabal and his family.
Eventually realizing that he and his men were running out of food, David sent word to Nabal telling him what they've been doing and asking for provisions (which was totally normal during this time). Long story short, Nabal (who we learn is a horrible man) was dismissive, rude, and would do nothing to help. I know it seems weird in our culture today, but that type of response would equal retaliation...which David and his men were about to do.
Realizing she needed to make amends before destruction befell her family, Abigail approached the future king with great diplomacy. Humbly offering him a peace offering, she generously gifted David and his men plenty of food and wine (which was a lot since he traveled with 600 men). Her quick actions saved her household from disaster and kept David and his men from unnecessary bloodshed.
Like Abigail, you carry yourself with dignity and integrity despite your circumstances (even if you're in a toxic marriage like she was). You are the kind, bold, woman of action who jumps up when the lives of those around you need help. You, sweet friend, have a deep desire to protect and care for the lives of others.
