Our (new) Laundry Room - what we chose

Check out these Before Photos + you’ll see why we’re SO excited that our new laundry room will be real in a few short weeks! I wanted an Australian Boho look…and we totally nailed it. Scroll through to see what we decided on + what still needs to be figured out!

BEFORE

when we moved in

5-minutes ago…displaying all the chaos and mess that has become our lives in the midst of this remodel.

Including (but certainly not limited to: broken cabinet doors (that don’t stay closed!) + the laundry sink which has become our dishwashing area because we no longer have a sink and dishwasher in the kitchen.

Admittedly, it’s gross and a disaster right now…but I wanted to be completely transparent of our life as of this moment!

Ok. On to the fun stuff…

PRODUCTS + LINKS

SMART washer + dryer

We’re excited about this washer and dryer for a bunch of reasons. First, because our current ones leak and the doors sag. It’s definitely time to upgrade.

But also these are SMART Washer + Dryers!! And since I have a super bad habit of loading and forgetting to actually turn ON the machinE (arrrgh!!), this will be a game changer. With the help of Samsung’s app SmartThings (which also connects to our Frame/Art TV and Bespoke Fridge), it’ll notify my phone if I forgot (again). But that’s not all it can do!

Now the family can take care of laundry from anywhere. We can control the washer/dryer with voice commands from Bixby, Alexa and Google Assistant (we use the Alexa). AND…Wi-Fi Connectivity, allows us to:

  • remotely start or stop the cycle

  • schedule laundry to wash or dry

  • receive end of cycle alerts

  • and more!

I mean, the coolest…right?!

Half-Circle Cabinet Pulls

I saw this style pop up all over Pinterest and I became obsessed at how fun the and quirky the style is! CB2 carries them, but I really wanted to a less expensive option, so when I discovered these on Etsy, I took the plunge.

My Etsy version arrived this week and they’re gorgeously perfect. I CANNOT wait for our new cabinets to be installed (August 16!) so we can see how it looks in real-life.

Wall Tile

I knew I wanted handmade tiles because I really wanted an imperfect look with lots of texture. For the kitchen and several bathrooms we’re also remodeling, I found tiles I liked (a lot)…but they weren’t THE EXACT look I was going for because, let’s be honest…handmade = a bit spendy.

Real zellige tile is INCREDIBLE. I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

I couldn’t do it all over the house, but I let myself splurge in this tiny little room because I didn’t need much. And…though I’ve stayed away from permanent-type pink items in our home because of resale, I went for blush because…well, hello, it’s the laundry room. Why not?! I felt like it was a safe place to go a little crazy (for those of you who think pink tile is crazy. Wink).

NOTE: The above photo is the exact zellige tile I purchased. The below is not real Zellige but an example I found online of something similar to show the beautiful variation of color that will be shown in my tile.

Brushed Brass Faucet

Gold is back in, you guys. Did you know this?! BRUSHED gold/brass, that is. The shiny 1980s-90s stuff is still on the outs but the matte look of the brushed finish is in the early-stages of being the IT finish.

It took a bit of convincing Ben (my husband), but after seeing photos from Three Birds, Rejuvenation and Schoolhouse, he understood my vision (and even liked it!). He was in.

I saw the above faucet on this beautiful video posted by Sarah Schneider (IG: lovesarahschneider) and fell in love with the idea of a wall faucet. My sink will be a different style, but it’s still going to be so perfect.

Admittedly, I have yet to select our sink and countertop but I looooved the idea of a vintage style faucet coming out from the wall.

NOTE: At the time of my ordering, this faucet was sold out on Wayfair, Home Depot, and every other site I looked for it on. ARGH!! I was so disappointed…this is THE faucet! (I apparently get passionate about faucets these days)

After crying about it (not really), I thought…”What if I looked on Ebay?!” And there she was. Brand new. Still in the box. Just waiting for me.

Moral of the story? Get creative and think outside the box when you’ve found THE thing!!

Floor Tile

Ever since following along on Joy Cho’s (Oh Joy) home building project , I’ve been over-the-moon for terrazzo. Sadly, the real-deal is crazy out of my budget, but this porcelain lookalike will be perfect in my little laundry room (we’re doing the blue version in the basement bath).

NOTE: Green is on the opposite side of the color wheel from the blush wall tile…this room will look SO pretty and cohesive even with all the different textures and tile!

Cabinets

Ben and I have owned over 10 homes in our marriage, as well as flipped some, remodeled others and turned them into rentals, etc. In almost every kitchen we’ve redone…we’ve used IKEA cabinetry and been massively impressed.

This remodel is no different and here in the laundry room, I chose Axtad in white (which is a super bright white).

Other Details

We have (and LOVE) these baskets from IKEA (they hold all the stuffed animals + dolls in the girls room) but I’m waiting for the laundry space to be fully complete before deciding on all the decor and fun little details. I’ll probably use these baskets as hampers…but I might not! We’ll see.

If you scroll back up to the Before photos, you’ll see we have a LONG wall on the left. It’s a super skinny room so placing cabinetry or shelves here is an impossibility. A few years ago I put up this awesome peel ‘n stick wallpaper from Opalhouse (Target). This same paper is in our master bath…and until recently, was in our entry, too! I’m definitely thinking wallpaper would be great here again, but in a different color and pattern.

I’m even wondering if maybe I should find a big wallpaper mural. The wheels in my brain are turning. Stay tuned. The rolls in the photo example above are from Chasing Paper. Other favorites I’ve purchased from and am stalking are: Livette’s Wall Murals (I have this one in our entry), Loomwell, and Hovia.

On the other hand…

Maybe I’ll just paint the wall the same color as my office and put up a large print. I’ve recently discovered Kamala Nahas’ photography on Minted and I want her pieces in my entire home!

Below are some of my favorites by Kamala:

1 | 2 | 3

That’s all my laundry news for now…our install date is currently set for August 16th so fingers crossed it all goes well! I can’t wait to show you everything once it’s real-life and not just products stacked up in boxes all in the corner of our dining room.

What do you think about the gold? The mural wallpaper idea? Or having a SMART washer + dryer? Anything you love or don’t love? Any thoughts and suggestions? Share them below!
